Message to Yarra Sustainable Transport Coalition Meeting

Thursday 5 May 2005, Nth Fitzroy Bowls Club

Dear Councillor Maltzahn (Chair of Meeting)

I am sending a message, firstly, on behalf of the Royal Park Protection Group to endorse the formation of the Yarra Sustainable Transport Coalition.  We are particularly concerned to continue to fight the threat of construction of "The Missing Link" - the extension of the Eastern Freeway through the inner suburbs and Royal Park to City Link/ Tullamarine Freeway.Paul Mees has been our highly esteemed RPPG representative on the State Government's  Northern Central City Corridor Study and has played a key role in so far keeping the advancing freeway menace at bay.

The Protectors of Public Lands Victoria also formally endorses the establishment of the YSTC and considers that this is a crucial time for groups to apply pressure to the State Government over provision of a coordinated public transport system for Melbourne. This is particularly so given that the Government is pressing ahead with the implementation of Melbourne 2030 - the Bracks blueprint for the city.

Rod Quantock, Deputy of both our organisations and a resident of Yarra, has sent his apologies for tonight's meeting.  I join with him in wishing you well for the success of tonight's meeting and for future campaigns.

Yours sincerely

Julianne Bell

Convenor of the Royal Park Protection Group

and Secretary of the Protectors of Public Lands Victoria.
